Orthodontic tools and braces

Liverpool Smile Studio has a long-standing reputation for excellent dental care, but we also work in orthodontics, providing our local community in Liverpool with all levels of treatment and ranges of devices. In order to meet the needs of our patients, we implement a variety of tools, from aligners to retainers to braces Liverpool.

The stereotype has been that orthodontics are a teen/young adults’ treatment; while there are good financial reasons to get orthodontic treatment done in your teens, there is no age limit to orthodontics and no clinical evidence that braces become less effective with age. The health of your teeth is an important factor and you do need cavity-free teeth and healthy gums to get the most from orthodontics. We are treating more adults than ever in our clinic, usually with ‘low-visual impact’ options like clear aligners or see-through ceramic braces Liverpool.

We are more than happy to move with the times and provide orthodontics to working adults whether it’s for delayed treatment not used in childhood or to reach a higher aesthetic standard to match your growing status. We understand the demands of working professional patients are quite different from those of teens, and therefore our adult orthodontics focus either on minimising treatment time or the most subtle and convenient methods of altering your teeth’s positioning.

No matter what point you are at in your orthodontic journey we are happy to help and advise, ensuring you get the most appropriate treatment for your braces Liverpool.

What treatment is right for me?

The nature of medicine has always been a very individualised service; yes there are treatment schedules and textbook examples, but each patient is different and you will need a thorough assessment by our dentists before we could give you a useful estimate of the treatment options, possible outcomes and time scales.

The fixed brace

The iconic vision of teeth undertaking orthodontics involves a row of brackets or anchor points, adhered to the front of the teeth, transmitting forces through an archwire. With more than 100 years of clinical use, they have been used to correct almost every imaginable dental misalignment.

There is an option with adult patients to use braces to minimise treatment time, but this comes with a draw back of increased discomfort. This is something you can ask our dentist about if the length of the treatment is an important factor for you.

Transparent aligners

Sometimes called an invisible brace, this is not actually a brace but a thin plastic device that covers your teeth like a mouthguard. You wear the aligners in a succession, using each one for about 2 weeks depending on how your teeth respond. Each aligner in the series progressively moves your teeth and as they are completely clear, you can see them reorganising your smile.

Retainers

In order to maintain progress orthodontic treatment sometimes has to be followed up with a retainer. The purpose of a retainer is not to adjust the position of your teeth, but to immobilise them so they can get used to their new positions.
