Smartening up damaged teeth

Teeth go through a lot of wear and tear. They arrive in our mouths when we are about nine years old and they are meant to last until we die, hopefully in our late 80s surrounded by our loved ones. In the intervening eight decades, we will have eaten about 87,000 meals, as well as used our teeth for things they weren’t created for, such as undoing bottle tops. We will have bitten down on olive stones and perhaps suffered the occasional face plant if we are young or sporty. We will have eaten foods that stain and perhaps smoked a lot of tobacco. And the longer we are alive, the more battered our teeth can become, which is why veneers in Liverpool are so becoming more and more popular.

Veneers in LiverpoolAt Liverpool Smile Studio, we love giving our patients’ smiles a new lease of life with veneers in Liverpool. They are so versatile for covering over a multitude of imperfections.

What are veneers?

Veneers are tiny sheaths of dental porcelain that we custom-make for each patient. They fit over the front of the teeth rather like nail extensions fit over the top of nails, except that veneers will last at least 10 years.

How are veneers fitted?

It takes a couple of appointments to get veneers fitted. In the first, we take impressions of your teeth and these are used to get the veneers made. We decide on the shade of porcelain to use and what shape to make the veneer. We also prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel. This is to create a rough surface on which to bond the veneer, and also to ensure that it lies flush with the neighbouring teeth.

A couple of weeks later, you come back and we fit the veneers by cementing them onto your teeth.

When to get veneers

You can either have veneers as a stand-alone cosmetic dentistry treatment, or as part of a combination of treatments, known as a smile makeover. If you choose to have teeth whitening as well as your veneers in Liverpool, you must have the whitening done first as dental porcelain cannot be bleached.
