Misaligned teeth, are braces the answer?

In this day and age we should not be seeing vast numbers of patients with a variety of problems caused by misaligned teeth. These conditions can be the result of genetics, bad habits or failure to identify the problem at an early age. The best time to correct this problem is as soon as the second set of teeth appears. In past years we have all seen youngsters with metal braces Liverpool attached to their teeth and while the braces may have looked uncomfortable they were doing their job. As a dental practice we realise braces Liverpool, are normally an essential part of the equipment that we need to correct misaligned teeth.

Bring your children in early

The best gift that you can give your children is an early introduction to our friendly, welcoming dental practice. It does not matter how young they are, the younger the better, so that they can experience the environment of our surgery. When you come for your appointment, bring them along and we will look after them while you receive your treatment. Eventually when their turn for a dental examination comes they will be relaxed and comfortable in the practice. Their initial examination will allow us the opportunity to identify any problems that may develop later. We can then advise you on what action to take and when it will be best to bring them in for treatment. Our skilled team will also provide education in the best brushing and flossing techniques.

Braces have evolved

Technological advances have allowed the dental industry to make some incredible advances in techniques and equipment over the past decades. Braces Liverpool have moved on from just the metal braces of decades ago. The metal braces of those days are now scarcely recognisable as they have had a major overhaul, resulting in a far more effective and comfortable apparatus. In addition there are now numerous new versions which allow for more specific treatment. There are braces which fit to the backs of your teeth so they are less conspicuous. There are the fixed braces which utilise blocks, wires and bands and these can be metal or ceramic, white or tooth coloured.

Aligners the latest innovation

More recently aligners have become available which work in a slightly different way to normal braces. Instead of blocks, wires and bands, aligners employ clear ‘trays’. These trays resemble a gum shield which fits over your teeth and by employing a series of them, each with a slightly different orientation, your teeth are gradually moved into the desired position. Because the trays are transparent they are less visible and they can be removed for brushing and flossing, as well as eating and drinking. They must be worn for a minimum of twenty-two hours per day. They also only require a visit to the surgery around every three to four weeks for the next tray to be fitted. These visits are much quicker than for fitted braces as there are no adjustments required, just a progress assessment and fitting of a new tray over the teeth.
